Our Team

WHO WE ARE

The Race For Snow team is a group of Boston-area high school ski racers committed to combating climate change. Practicing at Weston Ski Track, we rely heavily on man-made snow and are feeling the effects of the climate crisis as the amount of natural snow dwindles each year. Unfortunately, even our snow blowers are used less and less often as the cold temperatures needed for manufacturing snow occur more seldom.

Cambridge Sports Union Juniors hosted the first Race For Snow in 2017, but since then our organizational crew has expanded to include members of many local ski teams. We are entirely volunteer-based, motivated by the terrible effects of climate change on our sport, our community, and every community.

Our Mission

The Race for Snow engages the New England cross country ski community in the fight against climate change through a fun, family friendly event that reminds us all why we are fighting to protect our snow.

What You Can Do

You can join the fight against climate change by registering for the race, participating in our silent auctiondonating to 350 Mass through RFS, or sponsoring us

All Highschool

Just as it was five years ago, this race is entirely organized, directed, and facilitated by high school students from the greater Boston area.

From Left to Right: Tali, a senior, is part of the logistics team. She is responsible for working with 350 Mass and the Better Future Project to make sure all of our profits are put towards stopping climate change. Ella, a senior, is part of the timing team and odd jobs. During the 2021 virtual event, she will analyze the results as they come in, determining our winners. Isabella, a junior, is part of the advertising team, promoting our race around New England. Linden, a senior, is the general coordinator, making sure that everything runs smoothly.

All Athletes

Every single Race for Snow team member is not only a lover of winter, but also a competitive racer. When we're not practicing at Weston Ski Track, we're usually racing at an Eastern Cup or even sometimes at a National Ski Championship!

Sofia (far left) and Clara (far right), both sophomores, and Mica (middle), a junior, have the particularly interesting job of organizing our volunteers. Normally this would involve moving bodies and teaching tasks; however, since this year's race is a virtual event, and we don't have many volunteers, these three have been working to figure out how to make our race equitable across New England and encouraging different ski clubs to take part.

All Friends

Part of the reason our event is so successful is because our team is full of friends. We all want each other to succeed in our skiing, racing, and individual goals. This makes our work on the Race For Snow not only rewarding, but fun!

From Left to Right: Evie, a sophomore, is part of the fundraising team, finding prizes, donors, and other financial support for the race. Shea, a senior, is part of the climate change policy team, responsible for secretly funneling all of our profits to big oil... just kidding! She has been working hard to spread information about ways we, everyday people, can help battle climate change. She also invited our guest speaker to talk about his work fighting climate change.

Join Us

Though this year we have already formed out team, we always want more ideas of how to make our race more popular! The more money we get, the more we get to donate to safe our favorite season, Winter!

From Left to Right: Francesca, a junior, is part of the advertising team. She and Isabella have worked hard on our instagram and facebook pages, putting out messages and tips as well as emailing venues all across New England to get them to participate in the race. Amelia, a senior, has been extremely active in emailing potential sponsors and donors as far as the US – Canada border, to local shops right a five minute drive from Weston Ski track. Eva, a senior, has worked with Shea to inform the team and our patrons about climate change.
